A csak idén bekövetkező több ezer szabadtéri tűzeset, a hetek óta tartó szárazság és az ezzel összefüggésben lévő országos vízhiány, valamint az ezt orvosolni szándékozó faültetési kezdeményezések ellenére a csütörtökön megjelent 287/2022. (VIII. 4.) kormányrendelet egy tollvonással eltörölte azokat a korlátozásokat, amik korábban a hazai, akár természetvédelmi oltalom alatt is álló erdők fáit védte. A rendelet az orosz-ukrán háborúval és egy esetleges humanitárius katasztrófa magyarországi következményeinek elhárításával indokolja a döntést.
Az ügy kapcsán a WWF és a Greenpeace is megfogalmazta kritikáit, de a Habitat for Humanity is arra szólította fel a döntéshozókat, hogy a tűzifahiány és az áremelkedés miatti kapkodás ne eredményezzen visszafordíthatatlan környezeti károkat.
A döntés több szempontból is problémás lehet. Ha ugyanis az az idei tél energia szükségletét hivatott pótolni, az nagyon komoly légszennyezéssel fog járni. Egy fa tűzifaként történő felhasználhatóságához ugyanis kb. egy-másfél év száradásra volna szükség, az idei télig pedig még hátravan 3–4 hónap. Ha viszont a döntés értelmében már következő télre akarunk elkezdeni bespájzolni, akkor az hosszú távon nem harmonizál a globális felmelegedés elleni harccal és a nemzetközileg elfogadott klímasemlegességi törekvésekkel.

Szombaton délután az Agrárminisztérium is kiadott egy közleményt, amiben Nagy István agrárminiszter biztosította a lakosságot, hogy a „fűtési időszakra lesz annyi tűzifa a piacon, amely az igényeket ki tudja elégíteni”. E szerint már az idei télre szánják a most kivágni tervezett fákat, ami nyilván nem lesz olyan fűtőértékű, mint egy megfelelő ideig szárított tűzifa, ez pedig a települések légszennyezésének mértékén is érezhető lesz.
